White Painted Floors

I officially feel like my body has been through a washing machine.  This weekend Parker and I traveled to Lufkin (where my parents’ live) to take on a huge project.  Huge for us at least.  We have had some major DIY fails, so we’re very hesitant now to take on big projects, but apparently DIY wide plank floors from plywood are a thing as far as the internet in concerned.  We found several tutorials and an especially helpful one from Little Green Notebook, so we followed the tutorial word by word and installed DIY plank floors from plywood in my parents’ gameroom over the garage.  I haven’t really talked much about this project (once here and a few times on snapchat), but it’s about to become center stage on the blog.  I don’t have any photos to share of our work today, but many to come very soon.

My vision for these floors is to paint them in a high gloss bright white.  I am so in love with bright white floors (the farmhouse look) but going completely opposite of the farmhouse look with the rest of the room.  See below.

We are off to Fourth of July festivities, but just had to drop in to share what’s consuming most of my brain these days.  Are you into the look?

  1. I have said for at least a decade that if I lived alone I would have glossy white painted floors.every.where.
I have had painted floors in a 100 yr. old home we renovated over 20 years ago and they are by far the easiest floors to maintain. I don’t think it will ever happen in this house 🙁 so I compensate by painting lots of other things glossy white 🙂 Still not the same. Go for it!!

  2. Just found your blog and am now officially obsessed with white floors. Also, I am loving your design advice! I am a compulsive remodeler and am always on the lookout for the next great idea. You have tons of amazing ones!

  3. Oh, I hope you go for it! Lauren Liess went with all white floors in her current house, although I don’t think they were high gloss. Anyway, if she can do it with four kids then it must be okay!

  4. Last year I painted my open space living/dining room floors bright white. They were formerly a golden maple colour and didn’t go well with the darker wood tones in the room. They look stunning.! They work so well with the white walls and taupe and black color scheme in the room, bringing together a bright and sophisticated look. That said, our house is in the country and we have two dogs. After spending the first two months on my hands and knees, thankful for Magic Eraser, I decided I was going to have to be more relaxed about perfect cleanliness. I also make sure there are good area rugs outside the room to pick up some of the grime before it gets in the room. I don’t regret the change, I would do it again.

    1. That’s really good to know. I’ve been wondering about cleaning the painted floors and haven’t found too much on the internet about it. The space we are doing it in is very low traffic so I thought it would be good to experiment with it. Would love to see your floors!!
