It’s been a month since I hosted the School of Decorating at Loot Rentals. The workshop was fun and exciting (for me!), and going into the night, I thought after all was said and done I would have this huge rush and want to teach workshops regularly. I did leave with a huge rush, but not the kind that decided I was going to teach more workshops. But who knows! It was nice to challenge myself and conquer a few fears plus it was a night of community and all things decorating. Two of my favorite topics.
I’ve been to several creative workshops and I think the venue makes such an impact on the overall experience. Loot Rentals was THE perfect venue to host a workshop and being able to utilize their bar, furniture (chairs, accent tables), vintage rugs and accessories just made the night.
(Loot Finer Goods is a new part of their business. So excited to have that resource for clients.)
Oh man the florals. Twyla of Remi + Gold and her assistant, Tiffany, killed it with the florals. Watching them prep was mesmerizing……..
Florals just make everything better.
I’ve decided that a food spread that looks like an art installation should be a requirement for any event….. Spread & Co put together this beautiful cheese spread and if you can even believe it, it tasted better than it looked.
Averi of Averi With An Eye hand lettered the entry sign, personal notebooks, clipboards and swag bags for the attendees. Another mesmerizing detail…..
The swag bags turned out to be such a treat! Each bag had a unique print by the talented Morgan Goodwin, who is a local Austin artist. Originally I asked Morgan if she would like to put a print in the bags but she ended up saying she’d love to paint each print so that they were all unique. She’s the gem.. (One of the prints is peaking out below.)
Also in the swag bags –
Turkish towel from Hacienda – (I’ve had several of these towels for years and absolutely love them. Perfect for a swim towel, picnic blanket, really anything. Also, hands down the most curated spot to shop in Austin. I get lost in there every time…….)
Pretty tile samples & a discount code from Ann Sacks.
Yummy smelling candle from Remi + Gold.

As for the curriculum, I presented my own 6 step process that I use when decorating a room. While not all of the steps were able to be “practiced” during the workshop, guests had time to try a few of the steps (inspiration gathering, floor planning) on their own.
I had a sample center where I laid out all of my fabric, paint and wallpaper samples plus Ann Sacks let us borrow some tile samples.
Attendees practiced creating an inspiration palette and then a few people even shared theirs with the group!
Aside from learning about the decorating process, i think guests had a really nice time conversing and mingling with other guests (at least I did!)
And lastly (but certainly not least!), these beautiful photos!! How special to have the night documented by Caitlin Rose! She captured it beautifully!!
Again, a huge thank you to these generous sponsors:
