My Solution to the $150 Planter

02.05.16

DIY Planter

When did our world become one that buys $150 planters?  I’m all for spending $150 on a vintage chair, anything vintage really.  This is what I’m talking about:

West Elm Planter

I even bought one once and then returned it shortly after…

Since West Elm came out with those overpriced planters, the DIY planter has been going viral in the blog world.

But most of them require steps like this (which is awesome if you’re into power tools).  I’m not that kind of DIYer.

I’m more of a “put already built things together” kind of DIYer… So I started with these pots that are found anywhere.  IKEA had the large for $20 and the small for $10.

I stacked them to create a chunky plant stand.  Really I was just looking for height through the plant stand.  I didn’t need it to be mid century or super interesting for that matter.  I thought about painting them.  A coat of white paint would make it look a bit higher end.

It doesn’t get easier than that.

Happy weekend, all!

  1. I’ve been shopping around for vintage brass planters and have been so surprised at how pricey planters are! I’ve decided to hold out until the weather warms up and search out some garage sales because unless it’s just something extremely fabulous I can’t justify the cost. Love your idea!
