IKEA Steal

01.11.14

Hi friends!!  I am so excited to share my first blog post!  Get ready because this is a good one.  This DIY project is my favorite kind of project – taking something that is functional, yet bland and transforming it into something glam.

We have this corner in our apartment that looks SO empty.  I’ve tried a few different things to fill it (vases and indoor plants), but I was never happy with how it looked.  I decided a shelving unit would be the best fit for the space, so I started my search.  I looked high and low and finally found something I thought had potential.  I found this unit at IKEA and the best part you ask? $40!!  Here it is after I put the 100 pieces together:

I knew as soon as I saw it that I would have to spruce it up.  My first thought? GoLd!!  I’m all about brass right now. (It’s coming back, ya know?!)  I thought spraying it a metallic gold would give it that glam, brass look.  I took the glass shelves out and gave it a coat of this:

As you can see, gold spray paint did this shelving unit wonders.  I love how it turned out!!  Such a big transformation.  It even fits perfectly in our awkward corner!!  I think it really fills that space.

I am in love with these birdies!

What do you think?  Are you a gold lover?  I’d love to hear your thoughts!  Hope you all have a nice, relaxing weekend!
