I can’t say I struggle with this issue because our house isn’t huge, but it is certainly an issue that is overlooked as being an issue at all. Having a bigger space doesn’t make decorating easier. It can actually be the opposite. Just because you have a large living space doesn’t mean you have to go out and buy a huge wrap around sectional with matching accent chairs and an ottoman. I don’t know about you, but that makes my head hurt from $$$ signs. There are a few ways to go about decorating a huge living room that will probably prove to be more cost effective.
How to decorate a really large living room?
It comes down to the floor plan. After the floor plan is set, everything else can fall into place. There are a few no-fail ideas (and maybe you have a few more) to arrange a large living area.
- Group small seating arrangements (as opposed to one huge arrangement).
- Float all furniture pieces in the room instead of pushing furniture against the walls.
Create Multiple Seating Arrangements:
Gwen from The Makerista shows how to tackle a long and narrow floor plan. Often times, long and narrow spaces are those that need to be broken up into a couple of smaller seating arrangements. Those mustard chairs in front of the mirrors are the icing on top of this space. Without them the space might feel a bit empty, but with them….well….
Floating All Furniture:
It might seem obvious that the furniture had to be floated in these spaces, but sometimes placing your furniture in the middle of the room isn’t what first comes to mind. As long as you have a large space and a HUGE area rug, you can’t go wrong with floating.
Anyone out there living with a large living area?
