Guest Suite Progress

True story: When I picked up this sofa from the upholsterer, she said, “are you SURE this is what you wanted???”  I said, “Kathy, I’ve never been so sure about a sofa.”

I bought this sofa at Goodwill for $50 a few months back and it lived in Parker’s car until Kathy had time to recover it, then it lived in Parker’s car for another month until we could drive it home to my parents house for the guest suite.  We finally made that trip this weekend, and today I have fun guest suite progress.

First I shared about the dining/ study/ hangout table, which I’m still loving….

Guest Suite - Blue and White Ginger Jars, Classic Design And then the entry table, which I do still like, but I styled WAY too fall heavy.  (Cotton next to a huge tropical fruit print??)  This room does not feel warm, cozy and fall-like in any way, so this styling isn’t quite working.  I’ll have to rework that…

And then today we have another corner in the room that I decided needed a nice, statement sofa.

I knew I wanted something crazy bold on that sofa, and when I came across the Geranimus Coral fabric from New South Home, I knew that was the bold the guest suite needed.  Topped off with a nice lumbar pillow in their new summit aqua fabric………… quite a mix.

I added those ginger jar prints from Furbish over the sofa and love how they highlight the blue from the sofa fabric and lumbar.

I also made some progress on the bed.  The bed was pictured in the DIY wood plank floor post, but I didn’t talk about how much I love it.   So many great things to note about this bed, the first being the reasonable price for such a statement king size bed.

I still have several layers to add on the bed, but the I’m so glad I ended up having the euro shams made in the same Lulie Wallace Bette fabric.  Really loving how matchy-matchy (because nothing else matches in this room) the Crane and Canopy seafoam quilt and Lulie fabric is.

I got busy on those side tables.  So much table surface (for a nightstand) to style!!!

This should be the last progress post before the reveal, but that probably wont happen until after the new year.  I’m hoping to style it up for good over the holidays and photograph it then.  I’ll definitely have more wide angle shots so that you can see the flow of the room.  I do have to save something for the reveal post though…

What do you think so far?

  1. I’ll be honest… this room isn’t my style at all, but I think you’ve done a great job executing the vision you had for it! And kudos to you for pushing the boundaries and trying something different! Can’t wait for the full reveal post 🙂

  2. Gorgeous! I love all the patterns so much, and that sofa is amazing. Can’t wait to see the full reveal 🙂 Btw, do you know if there’s any way to disable the bar ad that lives at the bottom of your page? It covers up your beautiful pictures!
